New Delhi: Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Wednesday said India was the world’s largest supplier of generic and affordable drugs.

“The pharmaceutical sector is our religion, we believe in the concept of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,’ the minister said.

Virtually addressing an investor summit on “Opportunities and Partnerships in Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices”, he said: “After the Covid pandemic, investment in the Indian pharmaceutical sector has increased significantly. The behavior of India has always been pro-industry”.

“I would like to tell investors that Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji said to invest in India, to create an industry here. You are also safe in India. Global industry should benefit from the efforts of the Indian government to make this country the best investment destination,” he added.

Speaking of being pro-farmers and pro-industry, Mandaviya said, “We ensure industries go forward and sustain. Indian companies never cheat when sourcing. Our character is to maintain quality.

The virtual summit was part of the vision to further strengthen India’s position globally in terms of pharmaceuticals and medical devices. The session was organized to discuss how India can grow as a land of opportunity for medical devices and key takeaways from leading innovators.

The summit provided an opportunity for industry participants to discuss the success stories of India’s medical device sector, end-to-end integration to improve vaccine manufacturing capabilities, funding for start-ups in the pharmaceutical and medical device sector.
