Prescribing Generic Drugs to Patients: Drug Controller to Doctors


A one-day sensitization program on Pradhan Mantri Bharatya Jan Aushadhi Pariyojna (PMBJAP) was held today at a conference hall in Budgam.

The program was organized by the Budgam Chief Medical Office in conjunction with the Drug Control Organization.

Speaking on the occasion, J&K Drugs Controller Lotika Khajuria said that the generic drugs available from Jan Aushadhi Kendras across Jammu and Kashmir are not only cheaper and affordable but on par with the drugs brand in terms of quality and efficiency.

In order to ensure the benefits of Jan Aushadhi drugs are used by the general public, she urged doctors to prescribe them to patients.

Insisting on removing doubts about the quality of generic drugs, Khajuria said that there is no compromise on the quality and composition of the drug, that they are up to the task and that all these drugs are only approved. after being tested in an NABL accredited laboratory.

On the occasion, CMO Budgam, Dr. Tajamul Hussain Khan also highlighted the importance of Jan Aushadi Kendra in delivering medicines to the general public with cost-effectiveness and efficiency. He pointed out that there is a need for awareness among the masses as five Kendras are functional in the district while more Kendras are in preparation.

Dr. Zarka also spoke on this occasion and highlighted the benefits of the program and generic drugs.

Dr. Rifat Siddique also made a detailed presentation on the availability of drugs in the district. She informed the participants about the availability of generic drugs through the online mode.

Other speakers on the day also included Dr Irfana Dy. Drug Controller (K), Surinder Mohan Tickoo Dy. Drug Controller (J), Iqbal Palla Asstt. Drug Controller (J), Dr. Nishat Shaheen Divisional Nodal Officer Jan Aushadi (Deputy Director DHSK).

During the program, various Kendra owners also had the opportunity to express their views and share their experience. Beneficiaries of Jan Aushadhi Kendras also participated in the program.

Among others, the program was also attended by representatives of DHSK, Dy. CMO Budgam, DNO, BMO and other relevant officers and officials.
