In a big move, doctors in Uttar Pradesh have been told to prescribe only generic drugs and not brand name drugs to patients. The state health and medical department has given clear instructions to all doctors not to write down the brand name of the drug.

Doctors were advised to write the salt or the chemical composition of the drug instead of the brand name.

On Tuesday, Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak issued strict instructions to officers in the Medical and Health Department to prescribe generic drugs to patients, taking very seriously that doctors were not prescribing generic drugs. brand in government and government-subsidized hospitals.

According to the Medical and Health Department, instructions have been given to all public hospitals to display the list of drugs available in hospitals. The warrant was issued by Amit Mohan Prasad, Additional Chief Secretary, Medicine and Health.

Doctors have also been asked not to prescribe drugs that will have to be purchased externally by patients at all costs. Thanks to this, Jan Aushadhi Kendras will be better exploited.

Speaking to India Today, UP Deputy Health Minister Brajesh Pathak said the decision was made in the public interest. If there is no medicine available in the hospital and the doctor prescribes medicine for the patient from outside, then instead of writing the brand name of the medicine, he will write the name of the salt. Also, if a doctor is caught prescribing a brand name drug, action will be taken.

Earlier, there were several complaints about doctors prescribing brand name drugs which is a major cause for the decision being taken and the use of generic drugs being promoted.
