J&J HELPS START A HEALTH CAMPAIGN

The Axial Spondyloarthritis Association of the Philippines (ASAPh) and the Philippine Alliance of Patient Organizations (PAPO), in collaboration with Johnson & Johnson Philippines, have launched an educational campaign in recognition of World Ankylosing Spondylitis Day.

Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is one of two types of axial spondylitis – a chronic rheumatic disease that primarily affects the spine and sacroiliac joints. Over time, AS can cause certain bones in the spine to fuse, resulting in less flexibility and a question mark or
pleading posture.

Usually, the first symptom of this disease is pain and stiffness in the lower back and hips, especially after periods of inactivity such as sleep. Although there is currently no cure for AS, treatments such as physiotherapy can delay the progression of the disease.
